Job Description

Working together for a better borough

St Helens Borough is undergoing a transformation; not just in the regeneration of our towns and the economic growth in our key industries, but we have also undergone substantial change as a council. We have energetic political and officer leadership which is determined to get things done; and have undergone a council-wide restructure with a renewed impetus on performance and outcomes for local people, something that was positively highlighted in our recent LGA Corporate Peer Revisit, and further supported by our recent shortlisting in a national award for Most Improved Council.  We are a council with high ambitions, a place that is full of energy and focus, with a passionate and committed workforce and an exciting future ahead.

St Helens Borough is a place we’re extremely proud of. It’s beautifully green, hosts a variety of leisure activities, with excellent schools, an affordable housing market and great connectivity, being ideally located halfway between the cities of Liverpool and Manchester.

As set out in our St Helens Borough Strategy 2030, a key priority is to make a difference to the lives of children and young people who live in the borough. To do so we need to improve outcomes for all children, whilst tackling deprivation and child poverty and protecting children from vulnerable backgrounds.

We’re recruiting an Assistant Director of Children’s Social Care to help drive forward our children’s social care improvement journey. You’ll have responsibility for the whole gamut of social care services, from early help to care leavers, and will have the full support of the DCS, wider council senior leadership team, political leaders, and Cabinet.

A qualified social worker, you’ll be an inspirational leader with significant senior management experience across children’s social care and an ability to provide strong leadership whilst empowering staff. You’ll know what ‘Good’ looks like and have a proven track record and a passion for making a positive difference and improving outcomes for children. You’ll also have excellent partnership skills, a strong political understanding, and the ability to deliver results and find solutions.

This is an exceptional opportunity to both enhance your career and make a real difference to the children, young people and families across our borough.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Chris Barrow on 07437 839048 / chris.barrow@tile-hill.co.uk, Nik Shah on 07535 400434/nik.shah@tile-hill.co.uk or Anita Denton on 07725 554802 / anita.denton@tile-hill.co.uk.
