Job Description

This is an exciting time to come and join our Building Control Team at Ealing Council. Under new and ambitious leadership, the Council is having a reset. It is a vibrant place of growth and opportunity, a borough with ambitious plans to grow in sustainability and invest in place making to capture the opportunities the Elizabeth line brings to attract business and investment to Ealing. The Borough is home to iconic film studios, international food production companies and Park Royal, the largest industrial estate in Europe, but there are signs of change, and we want to capture this and achieve sustainable urban growth that helps us secure 10,000 new jobs and deliver 4,000 new and safe genuinely affordable homes over the next four years.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious Building Control expert to join the Growth and Sustainability management team and contribute to these exciting plans. We have recently reviewed our Building Control Service in preparing for the impact of the Building Safety Bill. We are placing a greater focus on the importance of the Building Control function within the Council, to build a stronger customer base and support major projects in the Council. The post holder will need to build a strong external relationship with the Building Safety Regulator and developers whilst also providing expert advice internally to Council departments and promote an improved building safety culture.

There is huge potential to shape Building Control at Ealing Council into the lead provider of building control services in the borough and we are looking for a candidate who has this aspiration. Our ideal candidate will possess the technical expertise and leadership skills to seize opportunities, embrace change, guide teams and support staff to develop their careers in building control.

This is a permanent role within the Council. You will be expected to work flexible hours (standard 35 hours per week) and be prepared to work occasionally outside normal working hours. We have a new hybrid working guidance that aims for everyone to be in the office two days a week.

The Building Control Service comprises:

  • Building Control

  • Emergency planning for dangerous structures

  • Home Improvement and Adaptations for the Private Housing Sector

  • Local Land Charges

For a confidential discussion and to find out more, please contact Greg Hayes (07423 243 415) or Clare Connor (0161 408 0703).

Closing date: Midnight Sunday 3rd July 2022
