As part of our innovative programme of work to create opportunities to share and integrate education services across Cambridgeshire County Council & Peterborough City Council, we are now looking to appoint a shared Assistant Director for School Improvement, to lead the range of school improvement services we deliver across both authorities.

For this key role, we’re looking for an ambitious leader with an excellent track record in delivering sustained school improvement. Reporting to the Director for Education, you will support school-led improvement for both authorities to ensure continuous improvement and high standards in schools across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Key priorities include implementing the new school improvement strategy, improving curriculum standards, and building effective relationships with the sector.

You will have relevant and extensive leadership experience within an education context and a strong understanding of the role of data in improving educational outcomes. You will have detailed knowledge of primary education and safeguarding. With the ability to effectively manage the interests of a wide range of senior stakeholders, you will be able to provide strong leadership both internally and within the wider education system. To do so you will be an excellent manager and strong communicator, with the ability to build trust and confidence with schools.

You’ll also have high levels of political awareness and sensitivity to allow you to shape and lead services in the interests of two local authorities and make a success of our ongoing shared services programme. This programme will deliver better, more sustainable education services that will ultimately improve educational outcomes for the children of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Teams work flexibly in order to support each other, and this has been particularly evident during the COVID pandemic. Partnership working extends beyond our own teams; exciting curriculum initiatives such as those involving Christine Counsell and the Haringey Education Partnership are helping to ensure that leaders and teachers develop joined-up and coherent curriculum plans. The Director of Education is determined that all pupils across both local authorities receive the best possible education and as AD you will benefit from his strategic thinking, help and guidance.
