Director of Housing
Cheltenham Borough Council
Transform Cheltenham’s Housing Services: Your Vision Matters
Cheltenham offers the very best of Gloucestershire. From humble medieval origins to a buzzing borough of 115,000 people, Cheltenham is a place that has thrived through centuries of change. Voted the best place to live in the South West in 2020 by The Sunday Times, Cheltenham is a vibrant Regency town that offers a blend of traditional and new infrastructure, and is nestled beside the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With an international reputation for having a thriving culture, heritage and sporting events, alongside strong and diverse communities and an affluent and diverse economy, Cheltenham really is a place where everyone thrives.
Cheltenham Borough Council seeks a visionary Director of Housing, a brand new role created to lead a revolutionary housing transformation programme. As we bring Cheltenham Borough Homes back in-house after a decade, you’ll have the unique opportunity to redefine our approach to housing management and compliance in an ever-evolving landscape.
In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee a varied portfolio of c.5,000 homes and lead a passionate team of over 100 professionals, including in our in-house direct labour organisation. Your leadership will be essential in tackling immediate priorities, including a long-awaited stock condition survey and shaping a strategy for our housing services. You’ll be at the forefront of driving our ambitious growth agenda, and influence innovative projects such as the Golden Valley development. Your focus will encompass three key themes: programmed maintenance, reactive maintenance, and our decarbonisation agenda to help us to achieve our bold ambition of becoming net zero by 2030. Ultimately, you’ll enhance operational efficiency and tenant satisfaction while ensuring our homes meet the highest standards of compliance and safety.
This is more than just a job; it’s an opportunity to shape a vibrant culture of collaboration and accountability within our teams. You’ll work hand-in-hand with key stakeholders to create a unified organisational ethos that prioritises excellence. Our ambition is to become a top-performing housing provider and to set the standard for other associations to aspire to. By driving our decarbonisation initiatives and expanding our affordable housing offerings, you’ll be instrumental in creating thriving communities that are proud to live and work in Cheltenham.
If you’re excited to lead Cheltenham into a new era– where your vision will not only transform our housing landscape but also enrich the lives of our residents – then we want to hear from you. Join us, and let’s create a lasting legacy together in the heart of Cheltenham.
