This is a key senior leadership role responsible for the People function, reporting directly to the Head of Service for Business Improvement, and working with the Chief Executive and Corporate Management Team.
The role embraces all aspects of HR including resourcing, leadership and development, employee relations, reward, organisational development and equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I).
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team you will play a key part in developing the vision and direction of an innovative and diverse district council. We are embracing culture change in the council and this role will be vital in embedding that within the organisation. Our People Strategy is a delivery-focussed and tangible strategy that has recently been developed to reflect the successes and learnings from dealing with Covid-19. As the Head of People, you will support everyone from the Senior Leadership Team across to Team Leaders to provide confidence to adopt new ways of working at a time when workloads are high.
You will be passionate about empowering staff, removing bureaucracy, and encouraging staff to network externally and be focused on outcomes. We are an organisation that celebrates the benefits that come from a diverse workforce, but we have more work to do to ensure our workforce is representative of the communities we serve.
The successful candidate will have the scope and opportunity to lead a People Experience function that can make a highly significant impact on the organisation and in doing so, further their own career.
We are seeking an experienced HR professional with the energy and skills to envisage and lead positive change. A coaching style is looked for in the person we appoint together with a breadth of experience in all areas of HR. The successful candidate should have the ability and insight to identify where HR can deliver most value and how the hard working and enthusiastic People Experience team itself is best deployed, coached and developed.
You will be someone who is delivery-focussed and can translate our strategies into action and make a tangible difference to our organisation. The successful candidate could come from the public or private sector, but you will be passionate about public service and the role we perform for the communities of Oxford.
