Job Description

We have precisely what every great Head of Planning could wish for. Great projects. Great budgets. Great opportunities.
This is an exciting time for Newcastle-under-Lyme as we roll out our ambitious plans for significant growth. We have already embarked on a range of initiatives to further enhance our Borough, breathing new life into our towns and public spaces to ensure the very best opportunities and quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors.
With plans for growth in Keele, alongside regeneration schemes in Newcastle and Kidsgrove town centres and various other growth initiatives, our Borough is really transforming at pace. In support of these plans, we seek a new Head of Planning to play a vital role in shaping how the Council reaches its growth objectives. You will quickly add value to a range of pivotal projects, including working with Staffordshire County Council on master plans to maximise the use of land to transform vacant properties into new residential and commercial opportunities.
The successful applicant will join a talented and high performing team that has a thirst for doing things differently. As Head of Planning, you will shape the future of the Council’s planning function to ensure it is structured to maximise potential and support the organisation in a modern and proactive way. Working closely alongside the Executive Director of Economic Growth & Development, you will also have regular interactions with Council Members, so must be comfortable operating in this political context.
The role requires someone who can evidence experience of working in a high performing planning function. You will hold a membership to a relevant professional qualification. Ultimately, you will need to demonstrate that you have led a customer-focused, cost effective service and possess strong leadership skills to guide your teams to even greater success.
If you think you have what it takes to bring true leadership and innovation to the future of planning with Newcastle-under-Lyme, we would love to hear from you.

To apply:
Please submit an up-to-date copy of your CV, along with a supporting statement (four sides of A4 maximum) addressing the criteria set out in the role profile and using examples to demonstrate how you meet the essential requirements. Documents should be uploaded via the Tile Hill website.
