Cornwall Council's new Head of Property will play a crucial role in how the council manages, develops and rationalises its extensive land and property holdings in a sustainable and environmentally responsible way. This will involve leading the council's teams of property professionals and also working with services and external partners to deliver property and asset strategies. The council's plans for the portfolio and property function are ambitious and far-reaching and they are looking for the right individual who can provide the leadership to drive these ambitions forward and make a difference for the residents of Cornwall.
As a member of the Council's Extended Leadership Team, the Head of Property will also be part of the transformation of the organisation. These are exciting times with the council fundamentally changing how it does business, how it works and how teams collaborate internally and externally to make Cornwall an even better place to live and work. The council's Head of Property is key in delivering this modernisation agenda - in which delivering the council's property strategy is a key component.
Cornwall Council's property portfolio covers operational, commercial and non-operational buildings and land assets. It is a large and diverse estate that is equivalent to a book value of £2bn and covers 3% of Cornwall. It is also unique as it includes assets as diverse as farms, an airport (including the recently announced spaceport) and numerous heritage and cultural assets.
We are looking for a talented, ambitious and dedicated individual whose leadership skills, values, tenacity and drive will be just as important as professional background. You will have significant experience in setting the direction for both commercial operational property portfolios. You will be able to demonstrate innovation and a dynamic approach as well as building and sustaining good relationships with external suppliers and multiple stakeholders. Alongside this you will be an effective leader with experience in successfully managing change, including reforming Property functions and delivering large scale asset rationalisation programmes.
