Interim Director of Property

We are supporting a local authority seeking an experienced Interim Director of Property to provide leadership across its corporate estate and drive forward a significant programme of estate transformation, acquisitions and disposals.
Reporting directly to the Corporate Director, this is a high-profile opportunity to shape the future of the property function while supporting wider organisational, financial and transformation objectives.

The Opportunity The council has already secured organisational support for a Corporate Landlord Model and is now focused on successful implementation.
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, strengthen governance and oversight across the estate, and bring the pace, structure and accountability required to embed a more corporate approach to property management.

Alongside this, the role will oversee a live programme of acquisitions and disposals, supporting both financial objectives and service delivery priorities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation and embedding of a Corporate Landlord Model.
  • Drive estate rationalisation and asset optimisation initiatives.
  • Strengthen governance, accountability and decision-making across the property portfolio.
  • Provide strategic leadership across a multidisciplinary property service.
  • Oversee a significant programme of acquisitions and disposals.
  • Ensure property activity supports wider corporate, financial and transformation priorities.
  • Build strong relationships with senior officers, elected members and service departments.
  • Create visibility, momentum and confidence across the organisation's property agenda.
We are keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate:
  • Senior leadership experience within local government property services.
  • Experience implementing or embedding a Corporate Landlord Model.
  • A strong track record in estate rationalisation and asset optimisation.
  • Experience leading complex property functions and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong political awareness and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to operate effectively at Corporate Leadership Team level.
  • A practical, delivery-focused approach with the ability to translate strategy into action.
Particularly Relevant Experience Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
  • Corporate landlord transformation.
  • Strategic asset management.
  • Estate rationalisation programmes.
  • Acquisitions and disposals.
  • Commercial property and income-generating assets.
  • Property service transformation and operating model change.
