Get to know: Anj Popat, Senior Consultant

What’s your background?​
I started my recruitment career in the Managed Service Provider space in 2013, joining Penna in 2014 where my focus was mainly on providing interim solutions to local authorities. One of my passions in life is travel, so last year I took a sabbatical and spent some time travelling across Australia and New Zealand. While I was there I took the opportunity to join a public sector executive search firm who worked with the public sector across APAC. It was a really valuable experience to work for a global executive search and interim firm and to help build a network of individuals that worked within different structures of public sector.

Why did you decide to join Tile Hill?
I was impressed by how David and Anthony had built a company, in a relatively short time (Tile Hill was created in 2017), with such a strong reputation in the market. Their focus on improving client and candidate experience, and rethinking how public sector senior recruitment is done, really made me want to join. Everyone wants to progress in their career and to do this at a company that truly wants to make a difference felt like a no brainer.

Tell us more about your role at Tile Hill?
I'm going to be working closely with David and Anthony to continue to grow the interim local government practice, working with clients to understand what they need, and making sure we deliver the best candidates and ensure an excellent customer journey. I am passionate about diversity in senior leadership roles and have seen how a diverse leadership team can make a real difference to organisations, so I'm excited to work with Tile Hill on how we ensure this sits as a central part to our recruitment processes, be that interim or permanent.

What will you be bringing to the table?
I'll be bringing a different style of thinking and a different set of recruitment experiences to the Tile Hill team. Experience I gained working in Australia, having seen another model of public service delivery, as well as a number of years working in public sector recruitment in the UK before this. My natural style is to bring a human touch to recruitment and I hope to make recruitment processes fun, engaging and, of course, as efficient and robust as possible for all parties. I enjoy getting to know the people we work with, their drivers and their passions, and using my knowledge to match them up with the right client/interim.

What's your approach to recruitment?
I believe in making sure I deliver a personalised and tailored service to each client and candidate. Honesty and strong relationships are key to building lasting working partnerships which ties in nicely with the Tile Hill approach.

What's the soundtrack to your working life?
It has to be 'The World is Yours' by Nas.

What's your top business tip?
Have fun with it!
