Assistant Director Legal (Deputy MO)
Thurrock Council
About the Role
We’re seeking a new Assistant Director of Legal and Deputy MO to help the council transition smoothly through a period of change and upheaval, ensuring our councillors and officers maintain the highest standards of conduct as we rebuild and reinvigorate Thurrock Council. This is a career-enhancing opportunity to step up or sideways into an organisation that’s committed to real and transformative change, under a renowned and highly experienced Director in the local government sector.
Lets talk about you
You’ll provide high level, strategic legal advice across the organisation, while also leading our Elections and Democratic Services – which includes a scrutiny team, member services team and a mayoral team. You’ll also get the opportunity to hit the ground running on some fast-paced, large-scale projects, including a constitutional review and the governance arrangements for Thurrock’s freeport.
We’re open to candidates from a range of sectors. While we’re clearly looking for someone with extensive legal, management and leadership skills to excel operationally, we’d expect you to have a deep and knowledgeable understanding of what good governance looks like in a local authority context.
