Principal Educational Psychologist

Government of Jersey

In Jersey, we have a clear vision and unwavering commitment to create the conditions where every child and family feels supported to thrive. As we further develop our future approach to education, SEND and inclusion on the island with a focus on partnership and improvement. Early intervention and inclusion will be central to the strategy with an opportunity to work in close collaboration with schools, multi-disciplinary professionals, and stakeholders. As part of this vision, we are on a transformational journey to develop and grow our Psychology and Wellbeing Service to ensure that psychology is at the centre of what we do, to help improve outcomes for children and young people, creating brighter futures for families across Jersey.

The role
As Principal Educational Psychologist, you will have broad autonomy to shape, manage and deliver the Psychology and Wellbeing Service. You will ensure a quality, cost effective service whilst meeting statutory requirements as underpinned by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Division of Educational and Child Psychology within the British Psychological Society (BPS). The role focusses on key priorities, including early intervention and inclusion, parental confidence and improved outcomes for all children and young people to create brighter futures for all children and families.

You will develop and deliver the Psychology and Wellbeing service, with collaboration and support from the Education leadership team, wider colleagues, and stakeholders. A particular focus will be to ensure psychology underpins the work of the service, embedding a culture of reflective and evidence-based practice across the team. You will ensure improvements in the mental health, wellbeing and education outcomes for children and young people, particularly those with SEND.

Inclusion and Early Intervention
The Psychology and Wellbeing Service is part of the Central Education Team. The service provides psychological services and support to help children and young people overcome learning barriers from ages 0 to 19. The service collaborates with schools and other professionals to identify and address SEND, promotes social inclusion, and offers training and support.

The Jersey education framework and landscape aligns to the UK but with fewer regulatory restrictions, providing an opportunity for Educational Psychologists to work more creatively and beyond traditional approaches to assessment of individual children. This brings an opportunity for Educational Psychologists to engage in creative work making a meaningful impact to children and families.
