Strategic Director of Sustainable Futures

We’re seeking an exceptional individual to provide overall leadership for the Council and shape the future of the Borough of Basildon. As our Strategic Director of Sustainable Futures, you’ll deputise for the Chief Executive – and act as the lead Council officer working with the Chief Executive and Members to develop, implement and shape long-term strategic direction and strategies. 
  
You’ll lead several services, including Economic Development: Policy & Partnerships
  
Communications, Events and Public Affairs; Customer Services; ICT; Digital; Research, Data, and Insight; Planning; and Regeneration. We’re looking for someone with a deep understanding of policy design and implementation in applied areas. This doesn’t just mean writing policy but being able to deliver policy in a meaningful way for the businesses and residents of Basildon.
  
We’re open to candidates from a range of backgrounds. You might come from a think tank or nudge unit, but relationships with central government, freeports and businesses would be a real bonus.
